- For limited time, Instant Funding (no challenge) is the most realistic entry
- Trade in the evening, during the London-New York overlap
- An EA (Expert Advisor) can handle daytime execution if you build one carefully
- File annually as miscellaneous income; consult a licensed tax professional
A prop firm can work as a side hustle for full-time employees, but only if the entry point and the trading window match the constraints of an office schedule. In practice, the bottleneck is rarely capital or skill — it is the minimum-trading-days rule colliding with a meeting-heavy workweek. The four-point plan below is what actually fits around a day job.
A realistic four-point plan
- Pick Instant Funding over evaluation. A challenge with a deadline plus a minimum-days requirement is hard to satisfy on three free evenings a week. Instant Funding (most prominently from The5%ers) removes the time pressure entirely.
- Trade the London-New York overlap. The window from roughly 13:00–17:00 UTC produces the cleanest moves on EURUSD, GBPUSD, and the major indices. For an evening trader in Asia, this is 22:00–02:00 local — still demanding but manageable.
- Consider an EA for daytime execution. A well-tested Expert Advisor on a VPS can place trades during your working hours. By contrast, expecting an EA to “make money while you sleep” without months of forward-testing is the most common way new traders blow up an account.
- Track everything for taxes. File annually as miscellaneous income in Japan, or the equivalent category in your jurisdiction. Consult a licensed tax professional before the second profitable year — small wins do not need an accountant; consistent ones do.
What to skip
- Do not start with a $100K account on day one. The fee is wasted on a strategy you have not yet proven.
- Do not trade during work hours from a phone. The drawdown stories that start with “I peeked at my chart in a meeting” are not legends.

The5%ers — for building up from a small ticket
Operating since 2016. Three plans run in parallel — the one-step Hyper Growth, the two-step High Stakes and the three-step Bootcamp — with fees from $19. The profit split climbs in steps toward 100%, but a flat 3.5% is deducted from every withdrawal. On 2026-08-01 this site re-rated The5%ers from High to Low trust (★4.6→3.3) after the firm itself acknowledged payout delays in March 2026. If you use it, keep the ticket small and confirm your first payout arrives before scaling up.
